Shortcut keys for use with dialog boxes

This topic provides an example that illustrates one typical behavior for boxes with down arrows in dialog boxes. (Your lists may contain different items, but the behavior will be similar.)

Example: New Entry dialog box

As you create a lexical entry using the New Entry dialog box, you may easily navigate to and then select items from the lists in the Morpheme Type box and in the Category box.

To do this with the keyboard, do the following:

  1. From the Lexeme Form box, press Tab to move the focus to the Morpheme Type box.

  2. Press the keyboard key for the initial letter or symbol of the morpheme type you want to select. For this example, press r to select root.

Other examples in this box include pressing the dash key repeatedly to scroll suffixes, pressing * to select *bound root, or pressing = to select =simufix= (according to the tokens you have specified.)

(Alternatively, you can press Alt+Down Arrow, use the arrow keys to select the item, and then press Enter.)

  3. Press Tab twice to move the focus to the Category box.

  4. Press the keyboard key for the initial letter of the desired category. For this example, press P, and then press Enter. (Alternatively, you can press the Spacebar to open the list.)

The list item Pronoun appears in the Category box.

Other example in this box includes typing A < to select <Any>.

(If your Category box uses a hierarchical list, the list will open when you press the letter key. In this case, press the Right Arrow key to expand a hierarchical list item, or Left Arrow key to collapse the list item. Then, you can press the letter key for the desired list subitem, and then press Enter.)

  5. Press Tab to select the Create button, and then press Enter to create the lexical entry.
