You use the Format toolbar to select a writing system, or to select the style you want to apply. You can do the same on the Format menu.
Here English is a writing system; Default Paragraph is a style.
Before you change the writing system of any words in a Baseline tab (Texts), review Baseline text writing systems. If you are not careful, you can cause duplicate words in the word list and other complications.
When you click a field or a line in a word focus box, or click or select words or characters, this toolbar shows the writing system used there. If a selection includes more than one writing system, the toolbar becomes empty.
If the current location permits embedded writing systems, this toolbar is available so you can select different writing systems. If any characters are selected and then you use this toolbar to select a different writing system, their writing system changes.
If any characters become rectangles, no data is lost. You will need to change the font for that writing system to one that supports those characters.
If a red wavy underline appears under a word, indicating a possible spelling error, check to make sure the word was entered in the correct writing system. If not, you will need to select that word and then select the correct writing system. Otherwise, you could inadvertently add a word to the wrong spelling dictionary.
If the field does not permit embedded writing systems, this toolbar is not available.
Use Format menu commands to see the full name of the writing systems or styles for which the name is too long to completely appear in the toolbar box. (Currently, you cannot change the size of these boxes.)
